  • N.I.C.K. Foundation

On the 27th of February, 2009, twenty-year-old Nicholas Buttifant took his own life. Nick was a talented musician who had the world at his feet. To those who knew him, he was an energetic, passionate young man, always able to make others smile. Losing him turned the lives of his friends and family upside down.

Out of this indescribable tragedy, the N.I.C.K. Foundation was born. With the sole aim of giving today’s youth hope for tomorrow, the N.I.C.K. Foundation set out to instill self-belief, compassion and resilience in young people and their families. Through programs, the Foundation offers parents, their children and mentors the opportunity to hear and share stories from inspirational people. These stories and the messages within provide a platform for discussion and assist our youth and parents when faced with life’s challenges.

The N.I.C.K. Foundation was named in honour of Nick Buttifant, and from the letters of his first name we found our core values: Nurturing, Independence, Commitment and Knowledge. Our logo encapsulates the idea of rising every time you fall – just as the phoenix rises from its ashes.

  • The Reach Foundation

The Reach Foundation was founded by Jim Stynes and Paul Currie in 1994 with a pretty clear vision – to inspire young people to believe in themselves and get the most out of life. Since then, Reach has grown beyond Jim and Paul’s wildest dreams – with hubs in Melbourne, Sydney and the Hunter Region. Thousands of people across Australia participate in our workshops each year and demand continues to increase.

Reach workshops are for anyone aged from 10 to 18 and are led by other young people who have been on the journey too. We call them the crew. As well as running all of our workshops, the crew are involved in ongoing training and development, contributing to the leadership of Reach, and training and mentoring younger crew.

Young facilitators from Reach often work with us on our Resilience for Teens Everest Base Camp programs. They bring a valuable range of skills, experience, expertise and passion to all our experiential programs.
